“All ye inhabitants of the world, and dwellers
on the earth, see ye, when he lifteth up an ensign on the mountains; and when
he bloweth a trumpet, hear ye.” Isaiah 18:3 “But who may abide the day of his coming? and
who shall stand when he appeareth? for he is like a refiner's fire, and like
fullers' soap: And he shall sit as a refiner and purifier of silver: and he
shall purify the sons of Levi, and purge them as gold and silver, that they may
offer unto the Lord an offering in righteousness.” Malachi 3:2-3 Our Lord
Jesus wants a set apart, sanctified and holy people who walk in the reverential
fear of the Father and bring an offering in RIGHTEOUSNESS. God is calling those
sons of Levi (Levitical Priesthood) to yield to His purging and cleansing’s
through sanctification. Sanctification is a progressive cleansing of our
character and conduct. The outer man will begin to act like our Lord Jesus. “I indeed baptize you with water unto
repentance. but he that cometh after me is mightier than I, whose shoes I am
not worthy to bear: he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost, and with fire:
Matthew 3:11
The
baptism of fire comes to help us mature and become certified vessels of honor
when we are real serious about serving God. It is a time that we are desiring
the Father to use us in a greater way. Jesus sees the potential and says I can
use her, but first I must consume up the dross in order for my power and glory
to come forth. “And
he said unto her, What wilt thou? She saith unto him, Grant that these my two
sons may sit, the one on thy right hand, and the other on the left, in thy
kingdom. But Jesus answered and said, Ye know not what ye ask. Are ye able to
drink of the cup that I shall drink of, and to be baptized with the baptism
that I am baptized with…” Matthew 20: 21-22 He was saying to His
disciples, count the cost are you able to go through what I am about to and are
you able to partake of my cup? In their eagerness and healthy zeal to serve,
they responded, we are able. Anytime that we feel we want to walk in a special
place, close to His heart, and we say Lord I want to serve you, use me, Jesus
says, “count the cost” and we eagerly say yes Master I have, and we are able.
Get ready, God will take you at your word and ye shall drink indeed of His cup,
and be baptized with the baptism of fire. A fire that comes to purge, cleanse
and sanctify His own--A fire that comes to expose the dross of the lust of the
eyes, lust of the flesh, and the pride of life. It comes to get rid of all
filthiness of the flesh, wrong attitudes and motives of the heart. It is a time
you learn to solely trust the Lord, His Word and promises.
“And the God of all grace, who
called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little
while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.” 1
Peter 5:10 (NIV)
This can
be a time that you feel that the hedge of protection has been taken away as it
was in the case of Job. The fire can
come in a time in your life that everything seems to be going well. You have
loved the Lord with all your heart, you’re tithing, witnessing, serving your
church and suddenly the forces of hell seem like they have been unleashed
against you. It seems you have no control over your circumstances. Your home,
children, family and material possessions are all shaking. You used to pray,
feel God’s presence, but now you wonder if He is really there? You’ve confessed
every sin you can remember and self– delivered yourself time and time again. If
you didn’t know better, you’d think you are backslidden, but you know you are
not. How do you know this? Because in your heart there is no desire for the
world you left behind, nothing matters, only serving God with all your heart;
and so you press on under the shadow of the Almighty in His secret place and
when you get to the point you feel you can’t stand it anymore, He will touch
you and let you know that He is there and He will never leave you nor forsake
you. In Isaiah 1:1 you will
notice that he (Isaiah) began his ministry during the reign of King Uzziah, but
it was not till King Uzziah died (Isaiah 6) that he
received the deeper purging. In Isaiah 6:6-7 it reads,
“Then flew one of the seraphims
unto me, having a live coal (fiery coal) in his hand, which he had taken with the tongs from off the altar. (The fire
came from the altar or the hand of God) And
he laid it upon my mouth, and
said, Lo, this hath touched thy lips; and thine iniquity is taken away, and thy
sin purged.”
Some of us are now experiencing the purging fires of the Holy
Ghost, some of us are being prepared to be plunged into the fire and some of us
will never yield to the fire. We will fight His hand all the way because we
will not recognize His hand that comes to correct, perfect and train his loved
ones. This latter group will blame everything negative on the devil, because it
does not line up with their confession. Sometimes the very situation we are in
can be the very thing that will expose the dross and the tin. “And I will turn my hand upon thee, and purely
purge away thy dross, and take away all thy tin.” Isaiah 1:25
Brothers
and sisters, lets be sensitive to the Holy Spirit, let’s not try to pray away
every situation that looks negative. It could be the hand of God. God uses fire
for judgment and also for testing. The works of believers will be tested by
fire. “Now if any man build upon this
foundation gold, silver, precious stones, wood, hay, stubble; Every man's work
shall be made manifest: for the day shall declare it, because it shall be
revealed by fire; and the fire shall try every man's work of what sort it is.
If any man's work abide which he hath built thereupon, he shall receive a
reward. If any man's work shall be burned, he shall suffer loss: but he himself
shall be saved; yet so as by fire.” 1 Corinthians 3:12-15 There are
many reasons why the fire is important. “Now
when Solomon had made an end of praying, the fire came down from heaven, and
consumed the burnt offering and the sacrifices; and the glory of the Lord
filled the house.” 2 Chronicles 7:1 Solomon was a man of prayer, after
he prayed, the fire came and then the Glory. In order to experience the glory, which
is the presence of God in our lives, we need to spend time on her knees in
prayer. “And after the earthquake a fire;
but the Lord was not in the fire: and after the fire a still small voice.” 1
Kings 19:12 The fire
is needed so we can clearly hear the still small voice. We need to know His
voice among the many voices that are coming forth in this hour. “And the priest shall put on his linen garment,
and his linen breeches shall he put upon his flesh, and take up the ashes which
the fire hath consumed with the burnt offering on the altar, and he shall put
them beside the altar.” Leviticus 6:10
The priest
could not put on his priestly garment until the fire had consumed ALL only
ashes remained. In order for us to wear our priestly garment, the robe of RIGHTEOUSNESS,
we will have to lay ALL that the Father requires and let the fire consume it,
until only the ashes remain. “And what
agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the
living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I
will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among
them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and
I will receive you. And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and
daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.” 2 Corinthians 6: 16-18, “And when all the
children of Israel saw how the fire came down, and the glory of the Lord upon
the house, they bowed themselves with their faces to the ground upon the
pavement, and worshipped, and praised the Lord, saying, For he is good; for his
mercy endureth for ever.” 2 Chronicles 7:3 Yes, the fire will make us
humble and we will bow down with our faces to the ground, worshipping and
praising Him and saying His mercy endureth forever. To God be the Glory!
